DIY: Thor Helmet

Theme parties are fun, but not so much when you end up spending a lot for a costume you only wear a few times. After my boyfriend and I received an invite to a Superhero themed party we decided to be as resourceful and creative as possible by making our own costumes.

Sticking to a Marvel theme,  I quickly decided Thor would be my costume of choice. Using primarily cardboard we found in the apartment recycling room, silver duct tape and some red cloth; I put together Thor’s helmet, cape and hammer. This post provides a step by step visual of how the helmet specifically was assembled.

I didn’t follow any specific instructions but basically measured my head and created a skeleton using strips of cardboard secured with duct tape. I also covered the entire base with silver duct tape and added two winged ears to each side. See below for the visual creation of Thor’s signature headpiece.

The final outcome on party night. My boyfriend also used duct tape, cardboard, dollarstore headlamp and paper plates to create his Iron Man masterpiece.
